We live surrounded by the possibility of connection, and perhaps precisely for this reason, we have become accustomed to constantly being elsewhere. An almost imperceptible gesture is enough to shift our attention from our surroundings to another reality. The body remains present, while the mind enters an invisible, personal space, which can be shared with others without ever being truly visible to those around us.
Through photography, the project observes precisely this subtle boundary between physical presence and mental absence, between the individual and the public space, between connection and isolation. The phone becomes a sort of bubble into which we enter without moving, remaining in one place while, for a few moments, we abandon it. People around us continue to talk, pass by, wait; something happens just outside the screen, but our “feeling” is elsewhere.
Perhaps today, being busy no longer necessarily means doing something, but being somewhere else. It is this form of absence within presence that these images observe: the moment in which we distance ourselves from one reality to inhabit another.
